This role can be performed remotely anywhere within the United States.

The scale at which FullStory ingests, processes, and persists data makes our systems uniquely challenging to design and operate. Capture Pipeline services are responsible for processing hundreds of thousands of browser and mobile application event bundles every second and quickly transforming this data into easily-consumable information for machines and humans alike.

As a staff software engineer reporting to the Director of Engineering for the Capture Pipeline, you will be responsible for designing and developing the next generation Extraction pipeline for our captured session data to provide more meaningful signals and timely updates to consumers internally and externally. This data feeds both the product analytics features in our own application as well as data analytics and machine learning systems, where streaming accurate data as it is being captured can power further insights and interactivity for our customers.

In a typical day, you might:

  • Engineer distributed systems that operate at tens to hundreds of thousands of requests per second using Go, Kubernetes, and GCP.

  • Explore ideas about how to unlock new features through thoughtful architecture and framework designs.

  • Mentor engineers on the team with design review, pair programming, code reviews, and operations support.

  • Collaborate with technical leaders and product experts to promote the technical roadmap for Extraction services, and to support collaborative development efforts across the engineering organization.

  • Ensure the quality and reliability of FullStory's capture systems and session data across many services and downstream applications.

Here's what we're looking for:

  • Experience building scalable distributed systems and frameworks consumed by other engineers.

  • Experience participating in code reviews, design reviews, and pair architecting.

  • Experience coaching and mentoring other engineers.

  • Understanding the nuances of distributed architectures, and addressing capacity and performance challenges when dealing with data at scale.

The impact you will have in 6 months:

  • You will have delivered enhancements to our Extraction pipeline to improve performance, maintainability and efficiency, and have implemented new behavioral insights and value to downstream analytics consumers.

  • You will be an active code and design reviewer for the team and a go-to person for implementation questions.

The impact you will have in 12 months:

  • You will have led iterative projects to improve our Extraction pipeline to deliver immediate and actionable information to downstream analytics consumers.

  • You have defined the technical roadmap for Extraction systems and worked with stakeholders to prioritize feature, cost, and operational initiatives.
